Ahavani Mullen is an artist who in recent years has been creating works using encaustic paint, an ancient medium composed of pigmented beeswax and resin. She has exhibited extensively in Chicago and around the U.S. at venues including the Encaustic Art Institute in Santa Fe, the International Encaustic Conference in Provincetown, Massachusetts, the Illinois Institute of Technology, the ARC Gallery, the University of Maryland, Rockville, and, most recently, a solo show at Morpho Gallery in Chicago.
Ahavani's honors include a 2012 grant from the Illinois Arts Council, awards from Manhattan Arts International and the Union Street Gallery, as well as multiple awards from Light, Space & Time Gallery.
Ahavani Mullen is a member of the professional organization of midwest encaustic artists, FusedChicago. Her work is held in numerous private and public collections around the country.
When asked why she thinks of these drawings as spiritual works, Ahavani Mullen responded, “As with all my work, they are first and foremost about the state in which they are created, and to me, that is what makes them spiritual.”
