Adnan Charara is a Lebanese-American artist who lives in the Detroit area.  

I would not call him an emerging artist because he has been painting for more than forty years.  But he is finally getting the kind of international recognition that he deserves.

Perhaps part of the reason this recognition has been slow in coming is that Charara never developed a single signature style.  He is so wildly creative that he has developed   many distinctive and unique signature styles.  And he often produces paintings that reflect these different styles even over the course of a single week.

Although it is a challenge to characterize the overall work of Adnan Charara, one broad way of doing so would be to simply say that Charara explores the human condition by means of humor and whimsy.

Humor is one of the tools I use in my art. The use of comical and at times cartoon-like subject matter in my paintings, prints and sculptures allows me to present existential motifs in a simplified form. This makes them more easily understandable and relatable to people of all ages, particularly children, who can gain a lot from early exposure to such matters.

Charara’s work is presently represented by galleries in Detroit, New York, Boston, London, and Berlin.
