Albert Wells has been somewhat forgotten these days, but this African-American artist was fairly well-known and respected during his lifetime.
He studied with Hale Woodruff at Morehouse College. During his career, he exhibited at the American Negro Exposition in Chicago in 1940, Atlanta University in 1942 and 1944, the Institute of Modern Art in Boston in 1943, and at other institutions and galleries. Various publications from this era discuss his work.
