Hipolito Hidalgo de Caviedes (1902-1994) is a well-known Spanish painter. He began his training with his father, the painter Rafael Hidalgo de Caviedes, and then at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, with Aurelio Arteta and Julio Romero de Torres.

Throughout much of the 30s, he was a mural painter. He created a variety of prominent public murals throughout Europe. He fled Spain during the Civil War and over the next twenty years lived in the United States, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. He returned to Spain in 1961. In 1970 he was appointed professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.

The artist’s paintings can be found in many museums throughout the world.
