Many knowledgeable people consider this painting to be Brandner's finest work. It depicts the Graue Mill in Hinsdale, Illinois.
Karl C. Brandner (1898-1961) was born in Oak Park, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago. He spent most of his life in and around this area.
Brandner studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Fine Art Academy. He is best remembered as an impressionist landscape painter, one of the most accomplished of several impressionist landscape painters living in Oak Park at this time.
He exhibited his paintings at the Chicago Gallery Association, the Palette and Chisel Club, and the Hoosier Salon.
