Maxwell Hendler is a contemporary artist who lives in California. According to Wikipedia, one of his paintings was the first contemporary painting to hang in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This is an early work by Hendler. The style of his work has changed several times since the 70s when this watercolor was created. Most recently the artist has been producing monochromatic paintings of supersaturated color.
