The condition of the etching is excellent. The image is clean. This print was professionally restored. The support sheet is a bit wavy, but that will disappear once it is matted and framed. It is not framed.
Edwin Forbes was the chief illustrator for Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper during the Civil War. He made a series of etchings based on the drawings he did at the time. These were published as Life Studies of the Great Army in 1876. The portfolio consisted of 40 etchings.
The portfolio was exhibited at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition in 1876 to much critical acclaim. Forbes won an award at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition for these etchings and was honored in Europe as well.
